Below are some of the things you need to do to ensure a smooth process.

Verify that the domain to be transferred is at least 60 days old.
Unlock your domain. Locked domain names cannot be transferred.
To unlock you domain visit your domain control panel or call your registrar.
Check your administrative contact email address to make sure it up to date. You will be requested to provide it. An email will be send to that address that must be confirmation in order to proceed with the process.
Get you authorization code if any is provided. Save it you will need it.

You are required to initiate a domain name transfer to set the stage for the other parties to come in. Initiate the domain transfer by:

Register for a new account if you are a new customer.
Log in to your account (at the the new registrar) if you already have one.
You can also call the number provided if you prefer to talk to a representative.

The gaining registar will then carry on with the process.

Mean while, during this time expect to receive some emails. You can also check the status and progress of the transfer by logging into you account.

It normally takes up to three days to finalize the transfer.
