Ecommerce Out-sourcing
Do all you can to avoid creating a treadmill for yourself. So if your ecommerce business is going to involve complex and time-consuming tasks which have to be done repeatedly, plan to delegate or outsource those tasks as soon as possible.
Don’t try to be a superman, it doesn’t work in ecommerce, don’t be stingy neither. Don’t just limit it to your self. Always look for opportunities to gain leverage, through other people's skills, energy, traffic, and so forth. This will save you a lot of time and unnecessary headaches in your ecommerce venture.
Choose products and resources you feel comfortable using. Try to choose a set of complete tools that will not bog you down to technical issues, if it doesn’t make an economic sense to buy them, outsource the service.
Now our discussion here is not about off-shoring, we will save that for politics, here we will limit our discussion to; the need and benefit of outsourcing. Now my understanding is that outsourcing is the delegation of certain non-core operations in our business to other separate entities that specialize in those operations.
A smart strategy before you go out, outsourcing each and every activity that you don’t feel like doing is first to hold on to those areas and operations that define the core mission of your online business.
Then only consider outsourcing those operations that are not as strategic to your core mission but are required for the smooth operation of your online business.
When outsourcing move and commit slowly, there is going to be a lot of interaction, coordination and information exchange between your outsourcing partner and yourself, you would want to get the feel and also have the whole process seamlessly fit without having to inconveniency your normal daily operations that can easily hurt and jeopardize your customers and business.
As a small ecommerce entrepreneur, why would you really want to outsource?
As a small entrepreneur you are likely to have only limited access to resources and ideas. Outsourcing will give you leverage by having access to new ideas and innovations. You will be utilizing the ability of the professionals who can get the work done using their expertise and skills.
Outsourcing will allows you to work with the minimum labor and equipment expenditure. For instance your outsourcing client will have a fully established infrastructure devoted especially to the service you need, therefore there won’t be a need to invest in developing your own internal infrastructure to accommodate this service if you can easily outsource it and in process cut the costs involved.
You will have more time to focus on core competencies; therefore you can now concentrate on providing better quality products and service to your customer base. You will have more flexible time to find out and know what your customers need and be able to provide exactly what they need, creating repeat loyal customer.
Of course before you outsource ask yourself, do I have the necessary internal recourses that can work well than I presently think?
If the answer is no, then its time to get outside help, evaluating what kind of help you will need. Don’t walk in blindly but rather put in some time to research and figure out the specific expertise that you actually need and can bring value to your customers and online business.
You should consider the kind of costs involved and see if it will makes more economic sense for your ecomerce business to seek such kind of help, be careful to account for other hidden cost that may not be obvious at a first glance
