New Domain Name Extensions Coming Soon.

ICANN will be releasing a list of new domain name extensions soon.

(If you are still wondering)ICANN, stands for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.

It is the organization charged with the global responsibility of coordinating domain names as well as addresses used in internet protocols. You can read more about ICANN here

It’s now very common to realize that all combinations of your names extensions like:

.com for commercial business.

.org for Organizations or nonprofit.

.gov for Government agencies.

Just to mention a few, is already taken by another individual or company.

Well the good news is that relive is on the way.

Sometimes during 2008, the Generic Name Supporting Organization, the ICANN committee that is currently reviewing the list of domain name extension has set this as the time duration that it’s bound to release the new extensions.

I know you must be wondering what this extension might be. Well as for now six names have been approved, this are:

.jobs.
.cat.
.tel.
.travel.
.asia.

Of course these new domain name extensions will open a new wide array of domain names that will be available for registrations. Although this is good news, we should also be aware of the cyber squatters who register of buy domain names with the hope of selling them at a higher price.

It’s therefore wise to be on the alert and wait for ICANN official announcement through their official web site so that you will be able to grab you choice name as soon as the new domain name extensions are released.

Just incase your first choice is taken; you can be try to be a little bit creative by using hyphens or common misspellings.
