Cool Job |
|
I have a friend who says, "college is only for people who need a boss." She's in her early 20s and she's running a successful Internet-based business with her best friend (who's a dude). She has not had a day job since she was in high school. What she means is not that you can't learn anything valuable in college. |
She's referring to the fact that colleges and universities have become indentured servant producing machines instead of ivied halls of learning. Kids' parents spend gargantuan amounts of money so that their children can get on of those cool jobs.
Our society starts grinding into us from the time we're old enough to talk that we must some day grow up and get a job that pays well and makes you happy – that we derive our value from our j-o-b, and we will be rewarded with money.
We'll be given money according to what someone else who controls us for a great part of the week deems he can or wants to afford to pay. We'll be given this money in exchange for our time, our energy, and our daily but temporary loss of free will and self-determination.
Having a j-o-b is deemed of the utmost importance, a mark of character and responsibility, and perfectly normal, and we are supposed to do this until we are too old to handle it, at which time we gain back our personal freedom and in exchange lose a great deal of our money, which in turn once again curtails our free will.
Normalcy really sucks--and so does having a j-o-b.
Some people who have a j-o-b say they are very happy because they are in their "dream cool job". Well, a "dream job" isn't a j-o-b--it's a career.
And how many of those who believe they are working at their "dream job" really just have a day job that they don't find too hard and have been hypnotized into believing they're supposed to have?
If you hate your cool day job--and the truth is most people really do on some level--there are at least seven reasons why you should quit your day job.
7 Reasons To Quit Your Cool Job.
Now, is that the way your "overlords" and the business owners make money? Not on your life. People who run their own businesses make money in their sleep.
Even if they work tons of hours, in the end they leverage a little effort to make a lot of money--and that is actually what being prosperous means. If you think there's anything prosperous about being a dumb indentured servant, you're crazy.
A cool job gives you extremely limited experience not only in terms of what skills you master but also in terms of your social life. There are more things in heaven and earth than you dream of at your day job.
Taxation is extortion. While some taxation is necessary, everybody knows that the less taxed they are, the better off they are. When you pay taxes, you're paying other people part of the value that YOU alone have created. Stop it.
