FrontPage Extensions
FrontPage Extensions allow a web master to publish a web site using Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage Server Extensions are server-side scripts that are a series of programs that work on, and in conjunction with, a Web server to provide functions that extend the functionality of FrontPage.
FrontPage Server Extensions support features such as hit counters, data collection, e-mail processing, and database processing. FrontPage Server Extensions are available for most Web servers, and are automatically installed during the FrontPage installation process.
FrontPage Server Extensions make publishing easier, not harder, and provide valuable services for your Web site. The server extensions affect three basic areas of functionality:
- Authoring. The Server Extensions interact with FrontPage Explorer when you do file or folder maintenance functions, such as moving, deleting, and renaming files or folders in your FrontPage webs.
- Administering. The Server Extensions handle communications with the server, related to permissions, and keep track of who has done what, and when, in the case of multiple authors on a single web.
- Browse-time Functionality. When these components are employed in a web, the Server Extensions provide them with their functionality.
These extensions can occasionally become corrupted, you can uninstall and then reinstall FrontPage Extensions whenever required.
